Royal Oak 44th District Judge Andrew Kowalkowski, appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer earlier this year, will officially be sworn-in at a public event this month. Royal Oak Chief Judge Derek Meinecke will swear in Kowalkowski during a ceremony at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Royal Oak Middle School auditorium, 709 N. Washington Avenue, according to a news release from the court. The investiture will be followed by a reception. Kowalkowski is filling the judgeship that was left open after the late Judge Jamie Wittenberg, 48, of Berkley died following a three-year battle with brain cancer on Nov.
